About Us
Our History
We’ve been around since 1990, when the former owners first opened up as G & S Pets. Since then, through various guises, there has always been a pet shop on this site at 34 Tinshill Road.
We have been operating as Animal Planet since 2008. Other shops have been and gone, we see it so often these days, with the damage that internet shopping has caused to our local economies.
Our Ethos is simple…
Pets are Family.
Over the years we’ve seen a lot of familiar paws and faces come and go.
Aged dogs, teary loved ones, sweet old ladies that feed the birds that live on in our memories, cute puppies that are now big bouncing brutes, and indestructible octogenarians that never seem to age, new puppies that the owners said would never happen. There are kids that’ve been coming in since they were at primary school, who are all grown up and now come in for their bunny food with their own children.
Bringing your pets into the shop is an experience for them and for us. The fitting of a new coat, cage, collar, or just popping in to say hi. You’re always welcome. Dogs, rabbits, petrified cats on their way to the vets, birdies, lizards, ferrets, There’s always an interesting smell to investigate or a new treat to try out (plus some complimentary nibbles).
We love the interaction and the connection that a local, community shop brings, and we thank you so much for being there for us. Your support is greatly appreciated.
